Everything you need to know about custom cosmetic tubes

Custom cosmetic tubes are squeeze tubes manufactured and decorated to your brand’s exact specification — your artwork, your colors, your cap, your material. They are the workhorse format of beauty and personal care packaging: lip balms and glosses, facial serums and creams, sunscreens, hand creams, hair masks and body lotions all ship in tubes because they dispense cleanly, protect the formula, travel well, and give your design a wraparound canvas that a labeled jar can’t match.

Because tubes are built to order, the right specification depends on your formula, your fill line, and your shelf presence. This guide walks through the common tube volumes and what they’re used for, the material choices (PE laminate, aluminum-barrier ABL, sugarcane-based and PCR resins), cap and applicator options, decoration methods from offset to hot-stamp foil, and how quantity-based pricing works. If you already know your spec, you can request a custom quote at any point.

Why go custom

The tube is the first thing your customer touches

Stock packaging makes a formula look generic before it’s ever opened. A custom cosmetic tube — printed edge to edge in your brand’s palette, finished matte or gloss, capped to match — signals a considered product at arm’s length on the shelf and in every unboxing photo. For skincare brands, private-label lines and contract fillers alike, the tube is where brand and formula meet.

Shelf-ready branding

360° printable surface for artwork, ingredient callouts and finish effects — offset, digital, silk-screen and foil, matched to your brand colors.

Formula protection

Cosmetic-grade PE and aluminum-barrier laminates guard actives, fragrances and SPF formulas against moisture, oxygen and light.

Built for your fill line

Tubes arrive open-ended and capped, ready for filling and heat-sealing — with diameters, cap styles and seal specs matched to your equipment.

How it works

From your artwork to fill-ready tubes in four steps

1

Share your spec

Tell us your formula type, target volume, material preference, cap style and quantity — or just the product, and we’ll spec it with you.

2

Dieline & proof

We send the dieline for your tube size, lay out your artwork, match your Pantone colors, and return a digital proof for review.

3

You approve

Confirm the proof, material and quantity. Pre-production samples are available on larger runs before anything goes to press.

4

We produce & ship

Tubes are extruded, printed, capped and quality-checked, then shipped fill-ready to your filler, co-packer or warehouse.

Sizes & volumes

Cosmetic tube sizes: which volume fits your product?

Tube volume follows the product’s use rate and price point. Lip products live in slim ~5 ml tubes; samples and serums around ~15 ml; facial creams near ~50 ml; lotions and sunscreens around ~100 ml; and body and haircare formats run ~150 ml and up. Here’s how the common volumes compare.

Typical tube volume by product type

Lip balm ~5 ml Sample / serum ~15 ml Face cream ~50 ml Lotion / SPF ~100 ml Body / haircare ~150+ ml

Bar length is proportional to fill volume in milliliters. Custom fill volumes are available across the range.

Typical tube diameter by volume

Diameter drives hand feel and shelf footprint — and must match your filling and sealing equipment. We confirm diameter with your filler before production.

Materials & barrier

Match the tube wall to the formula inside

Most cosmetic tubes are built from multi-layer PE laminate: soft-touch, squeezable, and a reliable moisture barrier for lotions, creams and gels. When the formula demands more — essential oils, fragrances, SPF actives, or oxygen-sensitive ingredients — ABL (aluminum-barrier laminate) adds a thin foil layer for a substantially stronger barrier against oxygen, light and aroma loss, which is why it’s the traditional choice for sunscreens and treatment products.

Sustainability-driven brands can specify sugarcane-based bio-PE, which performs like conventional PE while being made from a renewable feedstock, or PCR (post-consumer recycled) content blended into the tube wall. All materials we supply are cosmetic-grade, and we’ll advise on formula compatibility — the tube, cap and seal are specified together so the whole package behaves as one system.

  • PE laminate — the versatile standard: squeezable, durable, strong moisture barrier
  • ABL (aluminum-barrier laminate) — foil layer for high barrier against oxygen, light and fragrance loss
  • Sugarcane-based bio-PE — renewable feedstock, handles like conventional PE
  • PCR content options — post-consumer recycled resin blended to your target percentage
  • Cosmetic-grade materials — specified for beauty and personal care formulas
  • Compatibility guidance — we match wall structure to your formula’s actives
Customization options

Caps, decoration and finishes — specified your way

Cap styles

Flip-top caps for one-handed daily use, screw caps for a classic look, and applicator or nozzle caps for lip products, eye creams and precise dispensing.

Offset & digital print

Offset printing delivers crisp, economical decoration at volume; digital printing enables photographic gradients and low-MOQ runs — ideal for launches and variant-heavy lines.

Silk-screen & foil

Silk-screen adds thick, tactile ink coverage, and hot-stamp foil brings metallic logos and accents for a premium finish.

Matte or gloss lamination

Seal your artwork under a soft matte or high-gloss laminate for scuff resistance and the surface feel your brand calls for.

Tube shape & orifice

Round or oval profiles, standard or slanted lip-balm tips, and orifice sizes tuned to your formula’s viscosity.

MOQ guidance

Digitally printed runs start at lower minimums for pilots and launches; offset and silk-screen runs unlock the best unit economics at higher volumes. We’ll recommend the right method for your quantity.

Colors & finish

Tube colors and finishes that set the shelf tone

The base tube color works underneath your printed artwork — a clean white canvas, a moody black, a soft pastel or a naked natural tube all read very differently on shelf. Common directions:

Gloss WhiteThe classic skincare canvas — clinical, clean, versatile
Matte BlackPremium men’s care, haircare and minimalist lines
Nude & CreamWarm, natural positioning for clean beauty
PastelsLip care, K-beauty-inspired and youthful lines
Sage & BotanicalHerbal skincare, spa and wellness formulas
Clear / NaturalShow the formula — gels, glosses and oils
Metallic & FoilHot-stamp accents for prestige positioning
Pantone MatchAny brand color, matched across tube and cap

Need an exact match? We match your Pantone brand colors across the tube body, printed artwork and cap, and finish in matte or gloss lamination.

Quantity pricing

How custom cosmetic tube pricing works

Custom cosmetic tubes are priced per unit, and the per-tube price drops as your quantity climbs. Your quote depends on five things: tube volume and diameter, material (PE vs. ABL vs. PCR/bio-PE), decoration method and number of colors, cap style, and total quantity. Digital print makes small runs practical; offset and silk-screen deliver the best unit economics at volume.

FAQ

Custom cosmetic tube questions, answered

What’s the minimum order for custom cosmetic tubes?
Digitally printed runs typically start around 500–1,000 tubes, which suits launches, pilots and variant-heavy lines. Offset and silk-screen decoration carry higher minimums but better unit pricing at volume. Request a quote with your target quantity and we’ll recommend the right method.
What are typical lead times?
Lead time depends on quantity, material and decoration. After artwork approval, digital runs generally move fastest; offset runs at volume take longer through plate-making and press scheduling. Share your launch date in your quote request and we’ll confirm a production timeline before you commit.
Do tubes arrive ready to fill?
Yes. Tubes ship capped and open at the crimp end, ready for your filler or co-packer to fill and heat-seal. We confirm diameter, seal specification and packing format with your filling line before production so the tubes drop straight into your process.
Do you provide artwork dielines?
Yes — we supply a dieline template for your exact tube size and cap style, showing the printable area, seal zone and cap clearance. Supply vector artwork (AI, EPS or PDF) built on the dieline and we’ll return a digital proof before anything prints.
Which material should I choose — PE or ABL?
PE laminate covers most lotions, creams and gels with a strong moisture barrier and a soft squeeze. Choose ABL (aluminum-barrier laminate) when the formula contains SPF actives, essential oils or oxygen-sensitive ingredients that need a higher barrier. We’ll advise based on your formula.
Are sustainable tube options available?
Yes. We offer sugarcane-based bio-PE tubes made from renewable feedstock and PCR (post-consumer recycled) content blended to your target percentage, along with mono-material constructions designed with recyclability in mind. All options remain cosmetic-grade.
What decoration methods can I combine?
Offset or digital printing forms the base artwork; silk-screen adds tactile ink coverage; hot-stamp foil adds metallic logos and accents; and a matte or gloss lamination seals the finish. Most premium tubes combine two or three methods — your proof shows exactly how they layer.
How do I get a quote?
Use the custom quote form with your product type, volume, material preference, cap style, quantity and artwork (or just a description). You’ll get pricing, MOQ options and a production timeline back quickly.
